Toys"R"Us, Inc. Corporate Philanthropy

The core philanthropic mission of Toys"R"Us, Inc. is to keep children safe and help them in times of need. Below is an overview of our support for charitable organizations and programs.

Toys"R"Us Children’s Fund

The Toys"R"Us Children’s Fund is a public charity affiliated with Toys"R"Us, Inc. Since it was founded in 1992, the Toys"R"Us Children’s Fund has contributed millions of dollars annually to qualified organizations that keep children safe and help them in times of need, including those providing disaster relief to children and families who are victims of large-scale crises. The Fund also provides grants to leading organizations that support children with special needs. Primary fundraising activities include the annual Toys"R"Us Children’s Fund Gala, a private, invitation-only event that showcases the work of the Fund and raises money to support its many beneficiaries. Toys"R"Us, Inc. is the largest single cash contributor to the Fund. The company underwrites 100% of all Fund expenses, including all Gala and administrative costs. Toys"R"Us, Inc. also donates the time of its executives to manage and administer the Fund.

Autism Speaks

The company’s more than 260 Babies"R"Us locations nationwide joined Toys"R"Us stores in 2009 to raise more than $1.9 million during a nine-week in-store fundraising campaign in conjunction with Autism Awareness Month in April.  Since the partnership began in 2007, Autism Speaks has received more than $5.6 million through money raised during the Toys"R"Us, Inc. in-store and online fundraising campaigns and through donations from the Toys"R"Us Children’s Fund and Toys"R"Us, Inc. Also, Toys"R"Us, Inc. employees nationwide participate in the Walk Now for Autism Speaks program, a series of more than 75 fundraising walk events held in communities across the country.

Marine Toys for Tots Foundation

As the largest retail partner in the 62-year history of Toys for Tots, Toys"R"Us, Inc. has raised more than $20 million and nearly 2.7 million toys since 2004. Each year during the holiday season, cash and toy donations are collected in all Toys“R”Us and Babies"R"Us stores nationwide, and monetary donations are also accepted online. All toys collected remain in the community where they are donated to benefit local children.

Home Safety Council

In August 2009, Toys"R"Us, Inc. established a new partnership with the Home Safety Council, the only national nonprofit organization solely dedicated to preventing home-related injuries that result in nearly 20,000 deaths and 21 million medical visits on average each year. The two organizations work together to provide tools and resources for parents and caregivers to raise awareness about the importance of creating a safe home environment for children. This partnership pairs safety expertise with baby product knowledge and is designed to encourage parents to make baby-proofing their homes an important part of planning for a new baby.

Safe Kids USA

Toys"R"Us, Inc. has a national safety awareness partnership with Safe Kids USA, the first organization dedicated solely to preventing unintentional childhood injury. Since young children restrained in child safety seats have an 80 percent lower risk of fatal injury than those who are unrestrained, the two organizations work together throughout the year to provide actionable safety tips to parents and caregivers on critical car seat safety.

Save the Children

In 2009, Toys"R"Us, Inc. raised $1 million to help Save the Children purchase blankets for babies in need and provide support for Save the Children’s early childhood programs in the U.S. In addition, celebrity moms joined the campaign, designing one-of-a-kind blankets for auction, showcasing the fact that no baby should be deprived of basic necessities, such as a baby blanket. The Bundled in Hope campaign featured at-register and online fundraising and represented the next step in the company’s ongoing relationship with Save the Children. Historically, Toys"R"Us, Inc. and the Toys"R"Us Children’s Fund together have provided product and monetary donations totaling more than $2.3 million to aid in Save the Children’s efforts to help protect children, ensure their safety in shelters and at community recovery sites, and support their emotional recovery during times of disaster.

Kids in Distressed Situations (K.I.D.S.) is a global charity that distributes new, donated children’s merchandise to more than 1,000 nonprofit agencies that help children in poverty-stricken communities, homeless shelters, foster-care facilities, hospitals, AIDS clinics and relief organizations. Since 1993, the "R"Us family has given K.I.D.S. significant product donations annually, from both the corporate and store level. In 2008, store-level and distribution center donations exceeded $6 million in retail value. K.I.D.S. also receives annual grants from the Toys"R"Us Children’s Fund.

Children Affected by AIDS FoundationK.I.D.S.

Children Affected by AIDS Foundation (CAAF) is the only organization solely devoted to providing social, educational, recreational and other critical support programs to vulnerable children impacted by HIV/AIDS in the United States and other countries. Toys"R"Us, Inc. serves as the presenting sponsor of CAAF’s three signature Dream Halloween fundraising events in New York, Chicago and Los Angeles. In addition, Toys"R"Us, Inc. was an inaugural partner in CAAF’s Dream Halloween cause marketing program.
